PMP – 3

May 31st, 2009

I’m finally only three days out from taking the PMP exam, and no matter the result on Wednesday, looking forward to having a few days break where I don’t have to study/review.

For those still take the PMP exam based on the PMBOK v3, perhaps this formula compilation will be of help to you, too:

You Gotta Love Linked In…

May 28th, 2009

… and in a lot of ways, I do – it is a good resource professional networking, and has sort of become the new monster.com – only with less job-shop spam.

Since LinkedIn content is user created it can also offer hours of entertainment and fun – particularly when people embellish their skills and/or experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day soon Linkedin members created an annual award for “best fiction writing” or something similar.

Should that happen, I’d nominate prose which includes:

“Stratagist, development and execution.”

Luckily the author didn’t include “excellent command of the english language” - since then they would be lying ;-)

Other contenders for a fiction writing award:

“Experienced & Proven Talent Leader”

“Leader offering experience in team leadership, building client confidence and creative solutions. ”

What are your favorites from Linkedin?

Marymoor Park, May 2009

May 26th, 2009

One of my dogs turns 17(!) in July, and I am trying to take her to her favorite place (Marymoor Park’s Off-Leash area) as much as possible this summer – even though she’s only able to walk small pieces of it these days, it gives her great joy to go. Then again, it gives me great joy to go there, too.

I hope I’m this spry when I’m her age in people years (however that translates);

“It is a paradoxical but profoundly true and important principle of life that the most likely way to reach a goal is to be aiming not at that goal itself but at some more ambitious goal beyond it.”
- Arnold Toynbee (1889 – 1975)

“No man remains quite what he was when he recognizes himself.”

Oscar Wilde Monday

Oscar Wilde wrote ”There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” Since I’ve found few writers able to match both his brevity and wit, I frequently turn to his writings and quotes to humorously summarize a recent (or not) happening in my life. These are just a …

The Revolving Door Out…

May 15th, 2009

There’s something about this time of year that heralds change for me – I’m in the midst of preparing to take the PMP certification exam, with the end result being I don’t have any extra time – or the mental energy – to blog; but I’ll be back blogging starting June 9.

Perhaps it’s a good thing karma is not instant – eventual karma is ok, too, and deserves to be celebrated when it occurs; and some happened this week.

“We’re all mad here.”

I’ve often wondered how companies succeed when so much inside seems to be broken. If we’re lucky, work only consumes 10 or so hours a day, 5 days a week – but if you work in technology, frequently it consumes a lot more time, even if it’s only mental bandwidth and …

Ego, Redux

Help Wanted: Zookeeper with a Good Attitude.

Most job postings are dry. Really dry. And – they usually include “must haves” which require skills and/or experience with everything but being able to both plumb AND re-enamel a kitchen sink. As one hiring manager/Art Director I spoke with last week said – if any candidate ever met his team’s expectations, there …

Life on Mars

I’m a fan of the US version of the TV show “Life on Mars,” and look forward this weekend to watching the original British production. In the meantime, I’m still laughing over two lines from tonight’s show – “One Brady short of a Bunch;” and ”Maybe you spend enough time with a crazy …

Often I Learn the Most from People Who are Clueless.

Yesterday, my friend Sherry and I were “out and about,” enjoying a relatively warm, dry, and sunny late November day in Seattle. Sherry is a woman of many talents; in a past life was a Specialized Ed teacher. Eventually our day included a discussion of how those students who most needed help to learn were often …
